Description
Skills and knowledge in Human Geography are becoming increasingly important in the labour market. For instance, human geographers possess valuable skills in theory, as well as in applicable methods of GIS. Education in Human Geography are fundamental to several professional specializations, including urban planners, business developers, GIS experts, infrastructure strategists, researchers and investigators/managers in the private and public sectors.
In Human Geography: Level 2, you are given the opportunity to deepen your knowledge in regional development, social urban geography, GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and valuable qualitative and quantitative research methods. The course is divided into four modules.
The Region as an arena in economic development (7.5 credits)
During the first module, the region is studied and analysed as an arena of economic development, as well as an arena for everyday activities of businesses and people.
The social geography of the City (7.5 credits)
The second module focuses on the contemporary urban geographical debate and deals with phenomena such as gentrification, segregation, social polarisation and social exclusion.
Applied methods in planning (7.5 credits)
The third module is a course in research methods and gives basic knowledge in quantitative and qualitative methods, as well as Geographic Information Systems (GIS). This knowledge is then applied in a final project, focusing on urban and regional planning.
Degree project (7.5 credits)
The purpose of the forth module is for you as a student to combine previous course content within an essay. The module serves as an important preparation for your upcoming bachelor thesis.
The course is offered both within spring and autumn terms of the academic year. The language of instruction is English.

Requirements and selection
Entry requirements
General eligibility and at least 22,5 ECTS credits from a course corresponding to SGEA20 Human Geography: Introduction, 30 credits.
Selection criteria
English language requirements
Most of Lund University’s programmes require English Level 6 (unless otherwise stated under 'Entry requirements'). This is the equivalent of an overall IELTS score of 6.5 or a TOEFL score of 90. - official transcripts and high school diploma (Bachelor's applicants)
- official transcripts and degree certificate or proof that you are in the final year of your Bachelor's (Master's applicants)
- passport/ID (all applicants) and
- proof of English proficiency (all applicants).

Citizens of a country outside of the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland are required to pay tuition fees. You pay one instalment of the tuition fee in advance of each semester.
